There is no money shot. No single photograph presents the complete picture of this home, composed of layered details and subtle strategies suitable to the landscape and climate … and more comfortable-looking with each closer look.

There is something of Mies in the rhythmic use of concrete, black and large floor-to-ceiling glass panels … but also something of Wright in the use of water, rocks and overlapping layers.

Elegantly elemental, the design embraces fire, water wind and earth with sublime simplicity, with a clearly-central hearth, zen-like rock-and-water pools, paths for wind (and areas of protection from it) and a close connection to the ground all around.

Alcoves are carved in to form a H shape wrapping around outdoor courtyards on either side of the structure. Sloping rooftops tilt in toward the center, reinforcing the sense of a sheltered core.

Tectonic corten steel is balanced by thin-sliced horizontal rusticated wooden slats, giving the exterior a dignified aged appearance all around and blending it into its forest surroundings (as well as additional sunlight during long-dark times of the year).

An open fireplace connects inside and out, with covered patios connecting common outdoor spaces with more-sheltered interior ones. Designed by WRB Architects, this modest-but-powerful house sits outside of Stockholm.

Leaving the water running while it warms up is a wasteful habit, but what is the alternative? Taking a cold shower? Talk about a rude awakening. This idea contains a water-saving solution that should really make its way into more bathroom interiors.

This award-winning designer layout by Frank Guo features a space-dividing partition that doubles as a holding tank for water warming up while you wait to hop into the shower. When the user is ready and the water warm, they can push a button to switch modes and begin showering.

The stored water is later used for washing your hands or flushing the toilet, rather than simply spiraling down the drain though the pipes and straight into the city sewer system.

Being visibly held within an elegant glass container, the liquid-storing unit doubles as a partial room divider and decorative accent piece while letting you know how much water you have stored up for other uses.

While this solution is rather beautiful, the plan leaves something to be desired – saving water comes at the cost of using up more space by effectively splitting a bathroom into two parts with ways to walk around potentially on either side, at least according to this 3D prototype.

Maestru si fascinant artist al Renasterii mature italiene.

A realizat schite si proiecte de arhitectura pentru familia patriciana de Medici la Florenta si la Roma.

Bazilica San Piedro din Roma a fost punctul culminant al carierei sale arhitecturale.

În anul 1535 lui Michelangelo i se acordă titlul de „arhitect, sculptor și pictor de frunte al palatului papal”.

Ca arhitect, Michelangelo a fost un geniu revolutionar, ale carui lucrari concentreaza cele mai importante caracteristici ale arhitecturii Renasterii.

El a deschis noi directii nu numai in picturile si sculpturile sale, dar si in proiectele de arhitectura. Michelangelo a detasat elementele fundamental clasice ale Renasterii, precum coloanele, pilastrii si metodele de ornamentare a peretilor din contextul lor originar, creand astfel o intelegere complet diferita a stilului si a compozitiei arhitecturale.

Dispunerea spatiilor interioare si a celor exterioare a devenit intersanjabila, odata ce coloanele au disparut din cadrul peretilor, retragandu-se in nise abia vizibile. In acest fel s-a dezvoltat un tip de arhitectura adaptabila si revigoranta,care urma sa fie precursoarea barocului european.

Biblioteca Laurenziana 1524 - 1571 la Florenta

Michelangelo a creat o biblioteca magnifica pentru a adaposti nepretuita colectie de carti a papei Clement VII Medici. Treci scari interioare - una in mijloc pentru nobili si doua laterale pentru slujitori - alcatuiesc zona eleganta a intrarii. Michelangelo a introdus in cadrul constructiei ingenioase forme circulare, poligonale si ovale si a adaugat o scara curbata si o zona decorata precum scena unui teatru.

Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri 1563 - 1566 la Roma

Biserica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri din Roma a fost construita in centrul termelor lui Diocletian. Michelangelo a incorporat vechile ruine ale peretilor si arcadele tepidariumului in cadrul unei bicerici cu plan cuciform. Spatiul central a fost destinat navei principale si atingea 100 de metri lungime. Astfel Michelangelo reinterpreta idealurile antice in noile proiecte arhitecturale.

San Piedro , cupola 1546 - 1564 la Roma

Dupa preluarea constructiei noii biserici, Michelangelo a revenit la planurile initiale ale lui Bramante si a reusit sa realizeze cea mai mare cupola din lume. El a dat o forma aerodinamica spatiului, indepartand elementele adaugate de catre predecesorul sau Antonio da Sangallo. In schimb Michelangelo a concentrat dispunerea camerelor doar in functie de forma imensei cupole centrale. Cele patru coloane de sustinere au fost ranforsate, iar fundatiile se pot vedea printr-o fereastra din pardoseala. Intreaga constructie se baza pe o structura exterioara de sustinere si pe o structura interioara sustinuta de saisprezece perechi de nervuri. Perspectiva accentuata a panourilor in relief ale plafonului contribuie la iluzia optica a inaltimii nesfarsite.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, alături de Walter Gropius şi Le Corbusier, este considerat ca unul dintre pionierii, dar şi maeştrii arhitecturii moderne. Mies, ca mulţi alţii dintre contemporanii săi post-belici, a căutat să genereze un stil arhitectural care ar fi reprezentativ pentru timpurile moderne, aidoma cum, la rândul lor, stilurile gotic, renascentist si baroc fuseseră reprezentative pentru timpurile lor.

Rezultatul creaţiei sale arhitecturale este unul din stilurile cele mai influente ale secolului 20, marcat de claritate şi simplitate. Clădirile sale din epoca maturităţii creaţiei sale artistice utilizeză materiale moderne, aşa cum ar fi otelul industrial şi sticla plană cu ajutorul cărora a definit spaţii şi suprafeţe elegante şi austere în acelaşi timp. Arhitectul german, mai ales în perioada americană a creaţiei sale, a dezvoltat până la simplitatea maximă, specifică doar maeştrilor, utilizarea produselor industriale de serie (oţelul, sticla, betonul armat, metale şi aliaje dure), iniţiată de Gropius şi el în perioada lor Bauhaus, pentru a crea o arhitectură esenţializată, cu o mare putere de sugestie. unul dintre cei mai importanti arhitecti americani si unul dintre cei mai originali, a fost in mare parte un autodidact, ceea ce nu l-a impiedicat sa gaseasca solutii si idei originale, cu un simt al spatialitatii surprinzator pentru acea perioada.

A studiat ingineria la Universitatea din Wisconsin, renuntand dupa cateva semestre, inainte de a lucra alaturi de J.L. Silsbee si Louis Sullivan, dovedindu-se mai mult decat un simplu ucenic. In doar sase ani Wright a invatat suficient pentru a porni pe cont propriu, deschizandu-si propria afacere. In cariera sa de peste sapte decenii, Wright avea sa realizeze proiectele pentru nu mai putn de 1141 de cladiri, de la locuinte si cladiri de birouri la muzee, biblioteci, biserici, scoli, etc.

Experimentand in permanenta, lansand teorii si tehnici surprinzatoare, jucandu-se cu unghiurile obtuze si cu cercurile pentru a reusit in final forme neobisnuite, precum Muzeul Guggenheim (construit in 1943 - 1949), a proiectat atat constructii exclusiviste, cat si case ieftine, moderniste si simple, carora le-a dat numele de Usonian. Chiar daca inca de la inceputul secolului trecut era considerat unul dintre marii arhitecti americani, nu au fost putini cei care i-au contestat valoarea.

un clasic al artei arhitecturale si unul dintre pionierii arhitecturii moderne, a fost si fondatorul stilului Bauhaus, unul dintre cele mai populare si mai influente. Teoretician de prima importanta si unul dintre cei mai indrazneti arhitecti ai epocii sale, Le Corbusier a inceput prin a proiecta cladiri in linii geometrice, pure, cu sticla si ciment alb, pentru ca mai tarziu sa treaca la forme si materiale grele, dense, folosind sticla, piatra, beton si stucatura.

Un vizionar care a anticipat rolul mecanicismului si dezvoltarea rapida a oraselor, visa la cladiri de apartamente inconjurate de parcuri ample sau cu acoperisul acoperit de gradini exotice. A propus numeroase inovatii si in planificarea urbana, dar a gasit si solutii pentru locuintele ieftine, dar rezistente si comode. Un precursor al curentului arhitecturii ecologice, imbinand teoriile utopiilor arhitecturale iluministe si necesitatile vietii moderne, a fost si a ramas unul dintre numele deosebit de importante. Teoriile sale, excentrice in epoca, aveau sa fie puse in practica spre exemplu la Marsilia, unde s-a construit deja cunoscutul proiect Unite d'Habitation, o masiva structura cu 17 etaje, ce poate gazdui 1600 de persoane, avand si magazine, sali de conferinte sau de relaxare. De-a lungul carierei sale Le Corbusier a proiectat cladiri diverse in Europa, India, Rusia, SUA sau America de Sud.

Epericoloso sporgersi- este contrazis de arhitecţii vremurilor noastre: zgârie-norii dinamici, care se rotesc odată la fiecare oră. Privitul pe fereastră este o voluptate a observaţiei, a relaxării, a aşezării gândurilor. Dacă imaginile oferite de ferestre ofereau o constanţă, subtil modificată de starea privitorului, prezentul ne oferă clădiri curioase, ce îşi întorc periodic vederea către altceva. Primele două astfel de clădiri vor fi construite în Dubai şi Moscova până în 2010. Mintea sclipitoare din spatele acestei invenţii este David Fisher, acţionarul majoritar al companiei . "Viaţa de acum este dinamică, astfel că spaţiul în care trăim trebuie să fie şi el dinamic. Clădirile vor urma ritmul naturii. Îşi vor schimba direcţia şi forma în funcţie de primăvară sau vară, de răsărit şi de apus şi se vor adapta la climă. Clădirile vor fi vii", a explicat Fisher. Etajele rotative vor fi constituite din apartamente prefabricate, care se vor învârti în jurul unui nucleu de beton. Cei care se vor încumeta să cumpere un etaj întreg vor avea posibilitatea să comande vocal rotaţiile şi să îşi aleagă priveliştea. "Turnul rotitor este ecologic şi are capacitatea de a produce singur electricitatea", a adăugat inventatorul. Fisher are încredere în proiectul său şi ne asigură că este perfect sigur.
